As an efficient source of starch, cassava is one of the most important staple foods in Africa, milk is a valuable source of protein and fat, and coffee, as a cash crop, forms the basis of life for several million households in the tropics. The Institute of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Hohenheim is carrying out intensive research on these three products. This includes the mechanical peeling and energy-efficient drying of cassava root, the cooling of milk with PV energy and the production of biogas from the by-products of primary coffee processing.
